A court in Goa today granted bail to a man, arrested two days ago for allegedly posting false information about the health of Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar.

Kenneth Silveira (35), a businessman from Panaji who had contested an Assembly by-election against Parrikar as an independent candidate last year, was arrested by the Crime Branch after he allegedly posted false information about the chief minister's health on social media.

Parrikar is currently undergoing treatment in the US for a pancreatic ailment.

A judicial magistrate granted bail to Silveira today.

He has been booked under Section 505 of the Indian Penal Code for "circulating fake messages to create public alarm".
