"It is not a question of Congress being happy or unhappy...We have never intervened in proceedings of a case pending in a court...We do not comment on issues pending before the court...If the court has given bail to Raja, we respect that," party spokesperson Rashid Alvi said replying to a host of questions on the issue.
To a specific question on whether Congress will also support Raja as its ally DMK has done, Alvi said, "There is no question of supporting or opposing anyone when a case is pending before the court" but added "DMK is our ally".
Welcoming the decision of a Delhi court to grant bail to former Telecom minister A Raja, who was arrested 15 months ago in connection with the 2G spectrum scam, DMK leader Tiruchi Siva said, "We welcome the court's verdict and are hopeful that he will come out and prove his innocence."
Asked if Raja would attend Parliament or do party work, Siva said he will take part in the activities as per the conditions laid down by the court for his bail.
Siva said some DMK leaders may visit the jail at the time of the release of the former telecom minister.
Raja was granted bail by a Delhi court in the 2G spectrum case on a personal bond of Rs 20 lakh and two sureties of like amount.
