With a dispatch of 15,000 units of its new bike "Discover 125" within a fortnight of its launch, Bajaj Motorcycles is pinning hopes on its new product to boost sales in the mass market segment, a senior company official said today.

The "Discover 125" will steer growth and bring the company volumes, Guruprasad Rao, Deputy General Manager, Bajaj Auto, told reporters here at the launch of the motorcycle.

He said the company was targeting big growth in the market for bikes in the range of Rs 47,000 to Rs 50,000 in the current year, adding, this segment accounted for nearly 60 per cent of the motor cycles sold in India.

"We are focusing on new products and expect growth to revive in 2014-15 and can increase capacity depending on demand for Discover 125 which is clocking sales of over 1.2 lakh per month," he said.

The motorcycle segment, with sales of about eight lakh units a month, has recorded about 15 per cent decline in growth due to the economic slowdown and high interest rates, Guruprasad claimed.
