Bajwa calls off protest

Punjab Congress chief Partap Singh Bajwa today called off his dharna here to protest the alleged attack on party MLA, after an assurance from a senior police official to register an FIR into the matter.

Bajwa, who was on a dharna since morning along with other party members, had announced that the protest will not be called off till an FIR is registered against the accused.

In an alleged clash between Congress and Akali workers on May 7, one person identified as Naseeb Singh PA to Congress MLA Rana Gurmit Singh Sodhi was injured during the firing between the two parties at Ferozepur yesterday, a report quoting officials said.
 

SSP Ferozepur Varinderpal Singh assured the Congress leader to register an FIR by noon tomorrow.

Police also agreed to conduct medical examination of Naseeb Singh, who was injured in the firing. The SSP told Bajwa that medical examination will be conducted in the presence of media.
