Punjab is passing through uncertainty and corruption, crime and drug trafficking have assumed alarming proportions, Punjab Congress president Partap Singh Bajwa said today.

Paying tribute to Sikh Guru Gobind Singh's two sons on their martyrdom day at 'Shaheedi Jor Mela' here, he said social injustice was still prevalent in society in one form or the other.

Holding the SAD-BJP government "fully responsible" for the drug menace, he called upon all opposition parties to come together and launch a decisive fight against the drug menace.

Addressing the conference organised by his party at the fair, Bajwa alleged that the SAD-BJP government had been patronising drug mafias in Punjab. He said that drugs were being manufactured in Punjab and supplied all over the world.

The Congress leader said unemployment was becoming a major problem and the state government had failed to provide jobs to educated youths. "The Badal family has no interest in running the government, other than taking care of their business interests," he alleged.

Slamming the government for claiming that Punjab was on the path of progress and that millions of new investment is coming to the state, he said big industrial houses and IT companies couldn't be lured to make investment "merely on paper exercise and false propaganda".

Bajwa said the central government was pushing funds into Punjab under various schemes, but mismanagement and pilferage of central grants had driven Punjab into an economic crisis.

Speaking on the occasion, former Chief Minister Rajinder Kaur Bhattal said sand and gravel were a common man's need and basis gradients for development, but the SAD-BJP government had monopolised their business and inflated their prices.

She said during the Congress regime sand and gravel were easily available at reasonable rates. A trolley of sand which was sold at Rs 2,000 then, was now available for Rs 20,000, she added.
