Punjab Congress chief Partap Singh Bajwa today appealed President Pranab Mukherjee to dismiss the Parkash Singh Badal government for allegedly converting prosperous Punjab into a "mafia" state.
"This is to bring to your urgent notice that law and order situation in Punjab is rapidly deteriorating.
"I am constrained to draw your attention to illegal and strong-arm tactics that have been consistently deployed by the Badal family to promote and further their business interests at the cost of the general public in Punjab," he said in a missive to the President, copies of which were released to media.

He specifically referred to the molestation and death of a 13-year-old girl in Moga who was thrown out of speeding a bus owned by Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal and his immediately family members.
Bajwa said Sukhbir Badal should have been booked for culpability in the death of the girl. He gave examples of Uphaar cinema fire and Uber Radio Taxi case.
"This was not the first such instance where the crime in the state that had Badal connection," he said.
He said the only way out was the dismissal of the state government under Article 356 and imposition of President's Rule.
