Punjab Congress President Partap Singh Bajwa paid tribute to former chief minister late Beant Singh on his martyrdom anniversary, at his memorial here today.
He said that Singh, who was assassinated by terrorists, sacrificed his life for the unity and integrity of the country.
He called upon the people of Punjab to follow his teachings of unity, amity and communal harmony in which he believed.

Meanwhile, in Jalandhar, Congress leaders also paid tribute to him by garlanding his statue at the BMC Chowk there. Party's Jalandhar MP, Chaudhary Santokh also announced Rs 5 lakh for the refurbishment of the statue.
Beant Singh, who became Chief Minister in 1992 and began crushing the Sikh militancy, was killed in the blast in 1995 claimed by the Khalistan terrorists.
