Bal Apte, Mrinal Gore cremated in Mumbai

Among those present during the cremation were senior BJP leader L K Advani, party president Nitin Gadkari, Arun Jaitley, Rajnath Singh, Ravishankar Prasad, Shahnawaz Husain and Sushil Kumar Modi.

Apte, 73, died here yesterday following a respiratory disorder.

Meanwhile, veteran socialist leader Mrinal Gore, 84, was cremated at a crematorium in suburban Goregaon.

The legislative Assembly today mourned the demise of Gore, who died at a Vasai hospital in adjacent Thane district yesterday after a brief illness.

Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar tabled a condolence motion, describing Gore as a leader who worked tirelessly for weaker sections of society. It was seconded by the Leader of Opposition Eknath Khadse who said the veteran socialist was a champion of the poor.
