Balloon gas cylinder explosion kills mother-daughter duo

A woman and her minor daughter were killed and four others, including two girls were injured when a cylinder, used for filling gas in balloons exploded during a fair at Vijaypani village today, police said.

The incident took place when a vendor was trying to fill gas in balloons when it suddenly exploded causing panic in the fair, police said.

The victims identified as Chhammbai Thakur (40) and her 15-year-old daughter Ranjeeta died on the spot, Seoni district Superintendent of Police (SP) R P Singh said.

Two girls, who also belong to the victim's family and two others, who were injured in the explosion, were admitted to Barghat Community Health Centre for treatment, he said.
 

Police as well as the local authorities reached the spot soon after to take stock of the situation. The three-day long fair has been closed by the authorities after the incident.
