Terming Uttar Pradesh Government's decision to ban live music and DJs (Disc Jockey) during Kanwar Yatra as "undemocratic", state BJP chief Laxmikant Bajpai today urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Union Home Minister to take "appropriate action" in this regard.

"The step to ban the use of DJs and music during the Kanwariya processions is totally undemocratic. The Chief Minister should tell the people whether there is democracy in the state or autocracy," Bajpai said.

He said that more than 24 party MPs have opposed this step of the state government and have demanded "appropriate action" from the Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Rajnath Singh in this connection.

The state government had last month banned the use of live music and DJs during 'Kawariya' processions across the state to "maintain peace and harmony".

'Kanwar Yatra' is the annual pilgrimage during the holy month of Shrawan to Hindu pilgrimage places of Haridwar, Gaumukh and Gangotri in Uttarakhand and Sultanganj in Bihar to take a dip and collect water of river Ganga to offer to Lord Shiva.
