Ban orders for two months in Ramanthapuram district

In a bid to ensure peaceful observance of anniversaries of various leaders, including freedom fighter Pasumpon Muthuramalinga thevar, in the coming months, the district administration today said ban orders under Section 144 of Criminal Procedure Code would be in force for two months from tomorrow.

The orders ban public meeting and assembling of more than four persons, procession etc except with the prior permission of the District Magistrate, an official release said.

The order had been issued to maintain law order and public peace and tranquility in the district, it said.

District Collector Nandhakumar also prohibited hiring of all types of vehicles from Sept 9 to Sept 15 and from Oct 25 to Oct 31 for carrying volunteers for participating in the birth and death anniversaries leaders such as Immanuel Sekharan, Dalit leader, and Thevar Jayanthi.
 

The order also prohibited carrying of jyothi (torch),except from within one km of the venue with prior permission of the District Collector.

The Collector recalled that in 2012 the instructions of the district administration were not complied with by those who travelled in hired vehicles leading to a brutal attack and death of eight people.

In 2014, two incidents of Stone pelting were reported. Hence the administration had to taken all the precautions,the collector said.
