Shops, markets, commercial organisations and petrol pumps remain closed during the 12-hour shut-down called by several organisations, police sources said.
Vehicular traffic also came to a griding halt and roads wore a deserted look during the bandh called to protest alleged financial irregularities, mismanagements and corruption in the district health department, mainly the district headquarter hospital here.
A rally was taken out from the hospital where the protesters staged a demonstration and burnt the effigy of a doctor. Later they submitted a 11-point charter of demands to the district Collector.
