The Angami Youth Organization (AYO) has called a bandh from 7 AM to 3.30 PM tomorrow in area falling within Kohima Municipal Council and Medziphema and Chumukedima Town Councils in Dimapur district.

Tomorrow is the last day of filing nomination for Urban Local Body election. There are 3 Municipal Councils and 29 Town Councils with 353 wards, which are scheduled to go to polls on February 1.

The AYO is against 33% women reservation in urban local bodies.

The bandh was called to avoid any unfortunate event on the final day of the filing of nominations to the municipal elections, stated a release issued by AYO president Neinguvoto Krose tonight.

Any person attempting to file nomination shall be ostracized as outcast from society by way of excommunication, he said.

While regretting inconvenience to the general public, AYO advised the general public not to take unnecessary risk.

Apex tribal bodies in the state including Angami Public Organisation, Ao Senden, Sumi Hoho, Lotha Hoho, etc have called for a boycott of the polls also cautioning that those having disobeyed would be ex-communicated.

According to them, conduct of elections to ULBs will infringe the special rights of the Naga people guaranteed under Article 371(A) of the Constitution.
