Press Trust of India Jhargram (WB)
Life was partially affected in Jhargram sub-division area of West Midnapore district today in response to a 12-hr bandh call given by CPI (Maoist) and a radical ultra left group.

The shutdown call was given demanding unconditional release of 'Police Santrash Birodhi Janasadharaner Committee' member Chhatradhar Mahto and five others who were jailed on charge of anti-state activities in the jangalmahal belt.

Official sources said barring Jhargram-Belpahari route, buses plied in Bankura and Purulia route though in lesser numbers.

Most shops also kept their shutters open though there were fewer people also due to heat conditions and private, government offices functioned with normal attendance.

There was no report of any untoward incident.
