Life was partially affected in parts of Purulia and Jhargram sub-division area of West Midnapore district today in response to a 12-hr 'Jangalmahal' bandh call given by CPI (Maoist) and a radical ultra left group.

The shutdown call was given demanding unconditional release of 'Police Santrash Birodhi Janasadharaner Committee' member Chhatradhar Mahto and five others who were jailed on charge of anti-state activities in the jangalmahal belt.

Official sources said many shops were open in Purulia district as well as in Jhargram sub-division of West Midnapore district which fall under the forested stretch (Jangalmahal).

Passenger vehicles plied in Jhargram-belpahari, Jhargram-Bankura and Jhargram-Purulia routes but in lesser numbers, the sources said quoting reports.

Private, government offices functioned with a little lesser attendance as many people kept indoors also due to the heat conditions.

There was no report of any untoward incident.
