Bangalore International Airport Limited today said it has been formally accorded the EC (Environmental Clearance) for second stage expansion of the Kempegowda International Airport, Bengaluru.
The expansion will include the construction of a new terminal along with the second runway, taxiways, aprons, aircraft parking and all aviation facilities and structures, BIAL said in a release.
It said the expansion is envisaged to accommodate the future traffic growth which is likely to reach 55 million passengers annually by 2029-2030 and approximately one million tonnes of cargo movement.

BIAL said the second stage expansion approval was granted by the Ministry of Environment, Forests & Climate Change.
"The second stage EC for our airport is an exciting milestone which now paves the way for us to secure final approvals for the project.
"This expansion will help us in contributing significantly towards the state's economic development and is key to achieving our overall vision of making Bangalore the gateway to south India," BIAL MD G V Sanjay Reddy said.
"We remain committed to developing a world-class project in a timely and responsible manner and ultimately bring widespread benefits to this state," he added.
