Bangla border smuggling: BSF seizes cattle worth Rs 40 cr

Border Security Force has seized more than one lakh cattle heads worth Rs 40 crore in the first ten months of this year as part of its vigil against illegal smuggling of these animals along Indo-Bangladesh border.

An official record-sheet, updated till October 31, said BSF which guards the 4096-km long border also seized 6.94 lakh bottles of Phensydyle, a cough syrup abused as narcotic stimulant, from the same frontier.

The value of this illegal consignment is Rs 5.65 crore.

The Bangladesh border is notorious for the smuggling of cattle and the force, officials said, has deployed some special measures to curb this menace which includes foot patrol and raids to nab smugglers who try to cross-over.
 

The force, during the same period, also apprehended 3,376 Bangladeshis attempting to cross the border illegally.

Along Pakistan border, the force seized 288.52 kg of heroin, 24 arms and 504 pieces of ammunition and apprehended 112 intruders.
