A week-long Bangladesh film festival on the Liberation War of 1971 was inaugurated here today.

11 films including documentaries would be screened in the festival, organised by two cultural bodies of Tripura and Bangladesh with patronage from the department of Information and Cultural affairs of Tripura.

'Palashi to Dhanmandi', 'Karigar', 'Joyjatra', 'Pramanya Chitra-1971', 'Amar Bandhu Rashed' and 'Guerrilla' are being screened at the festival.

Inaugurating the festival, Tripura Information and Culture Minister Bhanu Lal Saha said, "The relation between Bangladesh and Tripura is very intimate. The state accommodated refugees from Bangladesh in 1971 when its own population was much less than the refugees.

"This kind of film festival will help people to understand the Liberation War and also enhance cultural ties between the state and the neighbouring country," Saha said.

Tripura has 856-km border with Bangladesh.
