The Bangladesh government has invited West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee to visit the neighbouring country.

A highly-placed state government source told PTI that an invitation came yesterday through official channels to visit Bangaldesh from February 19-22.

The timing coincides with 'Bhasha Diwas' which is observed every year on February 21 to pay tribute to language martyrs in Bangladesh.

Recently Bangladesh Finance Minister Abdul Muhith, on a visit to Kolkata, had hoped that Banerjee will visit their country soon.

Bangladesh President Md Abdul Hamid had recently met the Trinamool supremo during his India visit.

In 2011, the chief minister had backed out from Prime Minister Manmohan Singh's visit to Bangladesh opposing the Teesta water-sharing treaty between India and the neighbour.

On the border enclave issue between the two nations, she had said that a solution would be found soon.
