Bangladesh 'Mukti Jodhas' (freedom fighters), Indian war veterans and serving officers of the Armed Forces today came together to commemorate Vijay Diwas.

Bangladesh Social Welfare Minister Syed Mohsin Ali and some retired and serving army officers also placed wreaths at Eastern Command's War Memorial as tribute to the supreme sacrifices of the brave Indian soldiers in that country's liberation war that took place 43 years ago.

A seventy-membered delegation from the neighbouring country is in Kolkata to mark the occasion.

Although rich tributes are paid across the nation, Vijay Diwas celebrations here in Eastern Command assume a special significance as Mukti Jodhas and Indian war veterans who fought together reunite to celebrate this historic occasion.

Vijay Diwas (Victory Day) is commemorated every year on this day as it marks India's military victory over Pakistan in the 1971 war, resulting in creation of Bangladesh.
