Bangladeshi held for Bank robbery

A Bangladeshi has been arrested from South Dinajpur district of West Bengal for his alleged involvement in robbing a closed bank here during the Durga puja last month, police said today.

A gang had broken open the vault of the nationalised bank at Chowringhee area and robbed Rs 29.92 lakh in cash.

Acting on the complaint of the bank manager with the New Market police station, a Look out Circular was issued by the Kolkata Police for the robbers.

"The circular was sent to district police and on Sunday a Bangladeshi national was intercepted at the Bangladesh border check post of Hili in South Dinajpur district," a senior Kolkata Police officer said.
 

The Bangladeshi has been identified as Safikul Islam.

The accused was today produced before a city court which remanded him to police custody till November 5.
