A Bangladeshi national, wanted in several cases of ATM thefts in Goa, has been arrested here, the police said today.

Suhag alias Rustam was an active member of Delhi's 'Mota Bhai gang' and has several cases of thefts pending against him in Delhi and Goa, they said.

The gang members used to fly down to Goa to steal money from ATMs, the police said.

The Delhi Police got inputs from their counterparts in Goa about Rustam's presence here.

On the basis of a tip-off, Rustam was arrested from near Saket Metro Station here on September 23.

Police seized Rs 1.98 lakh in cash, two mobile phones, 13 silver utensils and six wrist watches from him, they said.

On July 14, the arrested accused, along with other gang members, had allegedly uprooted an ATM machine of ICICI Bank, installed in Usagaon, Goa, and stolen Rs 3,90,800, the police said.

In another case reported on September 9, the gang had uprooted an ATM machine of SBI, installed in Agarwada, Goa, and stolen Rs 18.3 lakh.

During interrogation, he revealed that their gang used to target ATMs where no security guards were deployed, said Ishwar Singh, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP).

As all the gang members are residents of Delhi, they would return to the city after committing crime.

"The accused is a Bangladeshi national. He came to Delhi along with his parents, a few years ago and started rag picking. Initially, he indulged in petty crimes. Later, he came in contact with members of the Mota Bhai Gang," the DCP said.
