A local court today convicted three pimps, including a Bangladeshi woman and a former cop, for running a prostitution racket here by luring women from Bangladesh on the pretext of giving jobs and sentenced them to rigorous imprisonment of three years.
The court of special judicial magistrate first class (excise cases) found Fathima Khatun, Venugopal Reddy, a dismissed police constable from Karimnagar, and Krishna Reddy--both from Andhra Pradesh--guilty of wrongful confinement under relevant sections of IPC and under provisions of the Prevention of Immoral Trafficking Act.
The court also convicted Fathima under section 471 (forgery for the purpose of cheating) of IPC, under sections of Foreigners Act and impersonating another woman by forging documents and awarded her three-years rigorous imprisonment.
Both the sentences will run concurrently.
"Fathima had impersonated another woman to procure a PAN card and a voter ID card by submitting forged documents," Osmania University (OU) Additional Inspector K Madhu Mohan Reddy said.
The police had busted the racket in December last.
Based on a complaint lodged by a Bangladeshi woman who escaped from the clutches of the trio after being forced into flesh trade, the OU police carried out raids in a flat in Habsiguda area here in December 2012 and rescued a minor girl, also from Bangladesh, apart from two other women of Andhra Pradesh, he said.
Fathima, who came to India around 10 years ago, was running the flesh trade racket with Venugopal Reddy and Krishna Reddy.
They would lure girls from Bangladesh and also from different parts of India, the police officer added.
