Bank clerk gets 1 year jail term for taking bribe

A CBI court today sentenced a clerk of a public sector bank to one year rigorous imprisonment for demanding and receiving Rs 3,000 bribe from a woman for an official favour in 2009.

II Additional Special Judge for CBI Cases in Madurai, M M Krishnan, also imposed a fine of Rs 2,000 on T Senguttuvan, an official release said here.

One Sivasamy of Suliochanpatti in Madurai district had complained to the Anti-Corruption Branch of the CBI that Senguttuvan, working as Clerk-cum-Shroff at a branch of Indian Bank, had demanded a bribe of Rs 3,000 for crediting Rs 45,000 loan/subsidy for his wife, which was sanctioned by the Horticulture Department.
 

A trap was laid by CBI against Senguttuvan and he was caught accepting the bribe, the release said.

After completion of investigation, CBI filed its report before the court under various sections of Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988.
