Bank employee booked for 'embezzlement' of over Rs 21 lakh

A case was registered against an employee of Punjab Gramin Bank for allegedly embezzling over Rs 21 lakh, police said today.

Kapil Bhagat, a clerk working at the Punjab Gramin Bank at Ghoman here, was booked under various sections of IPC and Information Technology Act on a complaint filed by branch manager Prem Chand, they said.

According to the complaint, the accused withdrew Rs 21,79,222 from the bank by allegedly misusing the email ids of a former bank manager and an assistant manager.

The accused is absconding and efforts are on to nab him, police said.
