Bank looted in Meghalaya

Armed robbers looted Rs 1.27 lakh from a branch of a public sector bank in remote Saipung block in East Jaintia hills district of Meghalaya, police said today.

Three armed robbers barged into the branch at around 1:30 pm yesterday firing in the air to silence the staff, district police chief S Thamar said.

Branch manager Paban Kumar has lodged an FIR and investigation is on to nab the culprit.

The bank branch is located at the premises of the block development office.
