Bank manager, assistant kidnapped for ransom

A bank manager and his assistant were allegedly kidnapped for ransom and were later rescued from Lakhisarai town here, police said today.

Rajiv Kujmar and his assistant Sunil Suman, posted at the bank's Kewada Bazar branch in Sheikhpura district, were kidnapped for ransom on Monday while returning home on a motorcycle after work, Lakshisarai Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Sanjay Kumar said.

Their bike was recovered from Ramgarh police station area, and the kidnappers had demanded Rs 40 lakh to free the two.

"We rescued them from a place under the jurisdiction of Town police station and are trying to get details about the gang," he said.
 

The police apprehended five persons in connection with the kidnapping who are being interrogated about any possible link with the kidnappers.

The abduction and ransom demand had caused a flutter in the state with the opposition terming it as an indication of the deteriorating law and order situation.
