Body of a 21-year-old bar girl was

today found in a decomposed condition at her residence in suburban Chembur, police said.

"The victim has been identified as Manju Verma and we are probing if she was murdered," an official from Chembur police station said.

The body was discovered by her parents who had come down from their native village in Rajastan to visit Verma.

The police said that Verma, who had moved to Mumbai two years back looking for a job, used to live in a slum in Indra Nagar camp with her three siblings.

"As she was unsuccessful in getting a job for herself, she ended up becoming a bar girl," police said.

Two weeks ago, Verma and her siblings had gone to Rajasthan to attend a wedding, but Verma returned home alone a week ago. Even her phone was found switched off when her family tried contacting her, which made them worried.

When her parents reached her house, they found the door locked and foul smell emanating from inside. They then took help of the neighbours and broke the door open.

"Verma's decomposed body was found with an injury to the skull," said a police official.

A case under section 302 (murder) of the IPC has been registered against unidentified persons.
