Bar raid: 15 girls rescued; two managers, customers held

Fifteen girls were rescued and 35 persons, including two managers, were arrested from a bar for alleged illegal activities at the premises in the city in the wee hours today, police said.

Following complaints about illegal activities at the Savera bar at Kapurbawdi Naka in Thane, the crime branch officials raided the place shortly after midnight, Additional Commissioner of Police (Crime) Dr Ravindra Singal said.

The sleuths rescued 15 girls, in the age group of 20-25 years, and took into custody 28 customers.

Besides, two bar managers, Subhash Tiwari and Anand Pujari, and five stewards were also arrested, he said.
 

A sum of Rs 58,000 was also recovered during the raid from the bar, Singal said.

Police said the raiding team also found a a secret hideout in the bar to keep the girls.

Those arrested have been charged under sections 294 rw 34 (obscenity) and 308 rw 34 of IPC, and sections 33(A) and 131 of the Bombay Prohibition Act 1949, police added.
