Senior CPI leader A B Bardhan today said a number of innocent Muslim youths had been lodged in jails on charges of involvement in terror activities and sought people's cooperation in ensuring their release.

A campaign should be run against "fake" cases lodged against Muslim youths and to ensure their release, he said at a programme "Peoples' campaign against political terror" here.

"A number of innocent Muslim youths have been lodged in jails on charges of their involvement in terror activities. All of them should be released and everyone should cooperate in this regard," Bardhan said.

Prof Salman Nadvi of Islamic institute Nadwat-ul-ulema said the SP government in Uttar Pradesh had promised release of Mulsim youths.

It should fulfil its promise soon, he said.
