Barley futures bounce on short-covering

Barley prices recovered by Rs 6.50 to Rs 1,467 per quintal in futures trade today as traders engaged in covering up their short positions amid a firm trend at the physical markets.

Marketmen said besides covering up of pending short positions by participants, rise in its prices at spot markets at existing levels on the back of pick up in demand from beer makers also influenced trading sentiment.

At the National Commodity and Derivatives Exchange, barley for delivery in current month recovered by Rs 6.50, or 0.45 per cent, to Rs 1,467 per quintal, with an open interest of 2,840 lots.
 

Likewise, the delivery for June was trading higher by Rs 3, or 0.20 per cent, to Rs 1,498 per quintal, showing an open interest of 6,330 lots.
