Barley prices softened by Rs 12 to Rs 1,157 per quintal in future trading today as traders preferred to reduce their holdings at prevailing higher levels.
At the National Commodity and Derivatives Exchange counter, barley for delivery in far-month June contracts declined by Rs 12, or 1.03 per cent to Rs 1,157 per quintal, with an open interest of 2,430 lots.
Similarly, barley for April month also dropped by Rs 7, or 0.61 per cent to Rs 1,136 per quintal, in an open interest of 12,880 lots, while most-active May contracts delivery lost Rs 5, or 0.44 per cent to Rs 1,136 per quintal, having an open interest of 24,890 lots.
Marketmen said selling at higher levels following a weak trend at spot markets on higher supplies and subdued demand, mainly led the fall in prices.
