Barley futures decline on low spot demand

Barley prices fell by Rs 13 to Rs 1,156 per quintal in futures trade today after speculators trimmed their positions amidst a weak trend at the spot markets on subdued demand.

At the National Commodity and Derivatives Exchange, barley for delivery in May contracts moved down by Rs 13, or 1.11 per cent, to Rs 1,156 per quintal, having an open interest of 14,210 lots.

Also, April month contracts was trading Rs 6.50, or 0.56 per cent, down at Rs 1,159 per quintal, in an open interest of 11,500 lots.

Marketmen said subdued demand at spot markets against heavy stocks position, mainly led to the fall in prices at futures trade.
