Barley prices declined by Rs 29 to Rs 1,487.50 per quintal in futures trade today as participants indulged in trimming holdings in tune with weak sentiments in physical markets.

At the National Commodity and Derivatives Exchange, barley for delivery in January dropped by Rs 29, or 1.91 per cent, to Rs 1,487.50 per quintal, with a business turnover of 20 open lots.

Marketmen said the fall in barley prices at futures market was mostly due to offloading of bets by participants, tracking weak sentiments at the spot markets, where prices declined on mounting of stocks on relentless supplies from growing regions amid fading of demand from beer makers.
