Barley prices climbed 4 per cent to hit upper circuit at Rs 1,367 per quintal in futures trading today following speculative positions built-up by participants.
At the National Commodity and Derivative Exchange, barley for delivery in December contracts shot up by Rs 52.50, or 4 per cent, to hit upper circuit at Rs 1,367 per quintal, with an open interest of 10 lots.
Meanwhile, delivery for September contracts rose by Rs 8, or 0.66 per cent, to Rs 1,217 per quintal, having an open interest of 11,590 lots.
Marketmen said speculative positions created by participants, supported by strong demand at the spot markets, mainly supported the upside in barley futures.
