Press Trust of India New Delhi
Barley prices strengthened by Rs 24 to Rs 1,605 per quintal in futures trade today as traders accumulated their positions on the back of emerging physical markets.

Market players said brisk demand from beer makers in anticipation of summer season, powered by tight supplies from growing regions in spot markets mainly ascertained the upsurge in barley prices in futures trading.

At the National Commodity and Derivatives Exchange, barley delivery for the immediate contract April surged by Rs 24, or 1.52 per cent, to Rs 1,605 per quintal, in an open interest of 1,250 lots.

The delivery for most active second contract May hardened by Rs 16, or 0.99 per cent, to Rs 1,636 per quintal, clocking an open interest of 1,410 lots.
