Barley prices shot up by another Rs 27 to Rs 1,584 per quintal in futures trading today after speculators created huge positions, taking positive cues from the spot markets.

Market players said the rise in barley prices mostly supported by a firm trend at the spot markets on tight supplies from producing regions, triggering speculative buying by participants.

At the National Commodity and Derivative Exchange, barley for delivery in April contract soared Rs 27 or 1.73 per cent to Rs 1,584 per quintal, with a business turnover of 1,030 open lots.
