Son of Barmer district collector has been booked under Arms Act after police recovered a country- made pistol with five live cartridges and a knife from his car at Gujar ki Thadi here, police said today.

27-year-old Shantanu Sharma, son of Barmer collector Madhusudan Sharma, was driving his car under influence of alcohol on Wednesday night, SHO Mahesh Nagar Ummed Singh Solanki said.

A passerby stopped his car for rash driving at Gujar ki Thadi but Sharma managed to escape, leaving his car there, Solanki said.

When police searched his car, a country-made pistol with five live cartridges and a knife were recovered. Later, they raided Sharma's house in Pratap Nagar area and arrested him yesterday.

The accused has been booked under relevant sections of the IPC and Arms Act, SHO said.
