Mercury today went up marginally giving relief to the people across north India except in parts of Jammu and Kashmir where minimum temperature dipped a day after snowfall and rains.
There was respite from cold for Delhiites with the day temperature settling two notches above normal at 25.5 degrees Celsius while the minimum stood at 10.5 degrees Celsius, a MeT official said.
Humidity in the air oscillated between 35 and 93 per cent and there was shallow fog in some areas during morning hours. According to a Northern Railway official, 15 north-bound trains were running behind schedule.
In Jammu and Kashmir, the minimum temperature dropped in most places in Kashmir Valley and Ladakh region, except Srinagar. The summer capital recorded the minimum temperature of 1.5 degrees Celsius, up by over two degrees from minus 0.9 degree Celsius the previous night.
Mercury in Qazigund on Srinagar-Jammu national highway settled at minus 2.6 degrees Celsius, compared to minus 2.8 degrees Celsius yesterday. Kupwara, in north Kashmir, recorded a low of minus 3.8 degrees, down by nearly four degrees from minus 0.1 degree Celsius the previous night.
The famous ski-resort of Gulmarg in north Kashmir had a low of minus 7.8 degrees Celsius - down by nearly four degrees from minus 4.0 degrees Celsius yesterday, while the minimum in Pahalgam hill resort in south Kashmir decreased by over six degrees from yesterday to settle at minus 7.4 degrees Celsius.
The tourist resorts of Pahalgam and Gulmarg and Kupwara town had received snowfall yesterday while most other parts of the Valley received rains.
Kargil, in Ladakh region, recorded a low of minus 15 degrees Celsius, same as the previous night, adding the town continues to be the coldest place in Jammu and Kashmir.
Cold conditions, however, abated in many parts of Punjab and Haryana with minimum temperatures hovering several notches above normal in both the states. Union Territory Chandigarh's low settled at 8.6 degrees Celsius, two notches above normal, with the city witnessing bright sunshine this morning.
Among other places in Haryana, the minimum temperature at Ambala and Hisar were recorded at 9.9 and 8.6 degrees Celsius.
In Punjab, Amritsar recorded minimum at 4.2 degrees while Ludhiana and Patiala recorded their minimums at 9.4 and 9.1 degrees Celsius.
