Batala cylinder explosion: Death toll rises to five

The death toll in the cooking gas cylinder explosion at Dogra Mohalla area here mounted to five today as one more woman succumbed to the burn injuries suffered by her in the mishap on June 21.

Jasbir Kaur passed away at Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER) here, police said.

Six persons, including five women, were seriously injured and had sustained more than 80 per cent burns when the explosion took place after leak in an LPG cylinder.

The women were preparing food at 'langar' (community kitchen) in a house at Dogra Mohalla.

Pooja, Rashmeet, Jashan and Sharan had died during treatment at Amritsar.
 

Meanwhile, Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal, who was here to attend a function today, announced an ex-gratia grant of Rs 1 lakh each to the next of the kin of the deceased.
