: Noted Tamil poet and novelist Salma has said that writers should be alert to safeguard and preserve India's uniqueness and diversity in their works of art.

Salma was speaking after inaugurating the fourth edition of South India Writers Ensemble (SIWE) at Edaneer Mutt here yesterday.

Malayalam poets V M Girija, Madhavan Puracheri, Anitha Thampi, Divakaran Vishnumangalam, Anwar Ali, A C Sreehari, K Rajagopal and Biju Kanjangad represented Kerala in the poet's meet held as part of the festival.
Salma, Devi Bharathi, Isai and Damayanthi represented Tamil literature, while Kannada literature was represented by Dhanjaya Kumble U Maheswari, Thulasi Venugopal, Mithra Venkataraj among others.
South India Writers Ensemble (SIWE) is the signature festival of Pampa (People for Performing Arts and More), led by poet Kanaka Hama since 2013.
