Beach Football to get underway in Goa tomorrow

Defending champions Calangute Association will fight for top honours when the third edition of the Kingfisher Beach Football Challenge gets underway tomorrow at Calangute beach here.

Addressing a press conference, Levino Rebello, vice-president of Goa Football Association (GFA) said the two-day event will see 16 local clubs competing for the most coveted title.

The tournament will be played on a knockout basis under the "Beach Soccer Worldwide Rules" recognized by FIFA.

Teams comprising five players each will be seen in a 24-minute face off with a break of three minutes in between. There will be three minutes of extra time in case the scores are tied at the end of regulation time, followed by a tie-breaker and sudden death, said Rebello.
 

While pride and honour is going to be at stake, the challenge will also gratify the winning team by Rs 15,000 and the runners up team gets to take home Rs 10,000.

The tournament will prove to be a visual treat as not only will prominent footballers from top clubs of Goa be seen in action, the game will be played under floodlights, a live band, foot tapping music and more, providing a carnival like ambience.
