In a gruesome incident caught on camera, a group of villagers today thrashed a bear with sticks and stones after being terrorised by it for the last couple of weeks.
The incident took place at Uppanayakanahalli in the district and was aired by local channels following which it went viral, drawing criticism from animal lovers and citizens.
According to villagers, the bear from a nearby forest was terrorising them for the last couple of weeks and had even injured a few of them.
On spotting the bear this morning, angry villagers attacked it "brutally" with sticks and stones, officials said.
After receiving the information, forest officials said they reached the spot and took the bear to a nearby zoo where it is undergoing treatment.
