Beating retreat ceremony held in Jammu

Scintillating pipes and brass bands of Army, BSF enchanted the audience at the Maulana Azad stadium here this evening as the Republic Day celebrations came to an end with the beating retreat ceremony.

Jammu and Kashmir governor N N Vohra, first lady Usha Vohra and senior officers of the police and civil administration witnessed the ceremony.

"Scintillating pipes and drums and brass bands of the Army, BSF and Jammu-Kashmir Police played enchanting tunes and received great applause from the audience," an official spokesman said here today.

The Governor gave away prizes to various brass band and and drum contingents for their outstanding display on the occasion, he said.
 

The JK Police public school Miran Sahab (girls) and Government Hari Singh Higher secondary school Jammu (boys) were awarded for the best march past.
