Bedi joins cleanliness drive

Lt Governor Kiran Bedi today

joined hands with sanitary workers and students of a private school to remove garbage on the stretch of beach here as part of a cleanliness drive.

Around 100 students of the school sporting cap, gloves and masks took part in the drive.

Picking up garbage while walking along the sandy beach and assisting the civic workers to dump the garbage in plastic bags, Bedi also presented shawls to the workers in ppreciation of their work.

Speaking on the occasion, she asked the municipal officials to make Puducherry beach 'dog free'.

"Beach should be dog free" she told the Commissioner of Municipality R Chandrasekaran who was among the officials who accompanied her during the clean up programme.
 

She also asked a senior police officer present to ensure that the men in uniforms joined the civic workers on Saturdays and Sundays to ensure a clean environ emerged on the beach road.

Local legislator K Lakshminarayanan was among those who were present.

A 13-year old boy M.Harsh Jain of the school requested Bedi to visit Rainbow Nagar where he is residing for launching the clean up programme.
