Beer worth Rs 35 lakh being carried illegally seized, 2 held

As many as 2,771 cartons of beer worth about Rs 35 lakh were seized and two drivers carting the liquor without valid papers arrested here early today.

Acting on a tip-off, police intercepted two trucks and found beer bottles packed in 1,389 and 1,382 cartons respectively, being carried illegally near Rajiv Awas Vihar area, a sub-inspector at Lasudia police station said.

Both the truck drivers - Nizamuddin (30) and Asif Khan (28) - were quizzed about the liquor consignment but they could not produce valid papers for transporting it, he said.

Subsequently, the two, hailing from Sendwa in Barwani district, were arrested and the liquor was seized, he said.
 

Initial investigations revealed that the liquor consignment was brought from a distillery, the SI said, adding, that further probe was on in the matter.
