Pierre Behnam, Director-South Asia of Pierre Fabre Laboratories, has been re-elected as the President of the Indo-French Chamber of Commerce and Industry (IFCCI) for the third consecutive year.

Behnam will preside over the chamber for one more year.

IFCCI represents around 550 leading Indian and French companies with an aim to promote the strengthening of business relations between India and France.

"The President's re-election coincides with a favourable economic context between the two countries. With over 1,000 French firms in India, France is one of India's top economic partners with investments of close to 20 billion euros and is forecasted to invest 1 to 2 billion euros on a year on year basis.

"The year 2016 will be remembered as an extremely dynamic and progressive year with France's active involvement in the 'Smart Cities' campaign and the significant agreement of India's procurement of 36 Rafale fighter jets," IFCCI said.

India recently inked a 7.87 billion euros (approx Rs 59,000 crore) deal with France for purchase of 36 Rafale fighter jets capable of carrying nuclear weapons and equipped with latest missiles that will give the IAF greater "potency" over arch rival Pakistan.

The Rafale combat aircraft will be manufactured by French aviation company Dassault.

Behnam was elected at IFCCI's 39th Annual General Meeting attended by Alexander Ziegler, Ambassador of France to India.

He has over 20 years of international professional experience. Behnam is also the Vice-President Advisor of the French Foreign Trade Advisors, India chapter (CCEF) and received the title of Chevalier of the National Order of Merit in 2012.

Set up in 1977, IFCCI is the official bilateral chamber fostering business relations between India and France.
