Bank account holders under Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana (PMJDY) have been asked to get their accounts as well as RuPay cards activated to avail of benefits under the scheme.

The appeal was made by Ludhiana Deputy Commissioner Rajat Agarwal to all account holders under PMJDY, said an official release.

The DC said that it has come to his notice that many people are yet to get their saving accounts and RuPay cards activated.

"Many beneficiaries are yet to contact their bank authorities, due to which the bank accounts and RuPay cards are yet to be activated. Some of the beneficiaries are yet to collect their RuPay cards from the banks, which they should do at the earliest," he said.

One can get his/her saving bank accounts and RuPay cards activated by visiting the bank concerned. The DC said that one will not have to pay any activation charges.

RuPay is a home-grown card payment scheme launched by the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI).

The DC further said that once the bank account as well as the RuPay card is activated, at least one entry a month is required to keep it activated. It is also mandatory to get the bank account linked with the Aadhaar card.

In Ludhiana district, a total of 5,19,926 bank accounts have been opened under the Yojana and the RuPay cards have been issued to majority of them.
