"This package for the two ailing mills was approved by the cabinet today," Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee said.
Of the Rs 45 crore rehabilitation package, Kharda Jute Mill would be given Rs 27 crore and the Kennison Jute Mill Rs 18 crore, Panchayat minister Subrata Mukherjee said.
Both the mills under the National Jute Manufacturers' Corporation (NJMC) were sick since 1983 and went to BIFR in 1992.
"Since these NJMC mills are in the state, it was our moral duty to prepare a relief package for the workers who are facing a difficult situation," Mukherjee said.
