Nearly 1000 Christian Missionary schools across West Bengal were today closed to protest against the ransacking of the Christ Church Girls' High School last week and observed a "black day".
A police picket was posted in front of the Dum Dum school where an 11-year-old student died on September 11 allegedly in shock after being confined inside a toilet of the school allegedly by her seniors.
"Nearly 1000 Christian schools are today closed across the state. While no protest is ever a happy occasion, we are glad and satisfied to inform you that today's expression of our anguish went off peacefully without any incident," Father Moloy B D'Costa, secretary, West Bengal Association of Christian Schools, said.
